Rating 4/5 This is a good conditioner. It's far better than Bee Mine but not as good as the LUV Naturals conditioner. Price
The 8 oz bottle should last 6 to 8 washes so the pricing is not too bad in my opinion but it still doesn't compete with the LUV Naturals conditioner which is $13. That said, if you order on Amazon.com you can omit postage by buying $25 worth of product to your Amazon cart and they don't all have to be Jessicurl products. Slippiness Good but not great. LUV Naturals is more slippy than this product. That said, it's probably good enough for most people. Tangles The slip of the conditioner was good enough to detangle my hair and minimise single strand knots. I get one or two knots that have to be cut off every time I wash my hair. Tip The conditioner is very thick so every time I use it I dilute it in water and add a few drops of peppermint essential oil (my anti-itch secret). Results after hair dried: my hair was soft, supple, shiny and bouncy. Slightly more shrunken than with the LUV naturals conditioner. I thought it was just okay. So far the best conditioner I have used on my hair is the LUV naturals brand of conditioner but I can't afford to keep importing it to the UK so I need to find an alternative. Price: Too expensive. I bought the 2 oz bottle to try it out and used the whole bottle in one go. That's £4.50 (or $7.20) in one session. Buying the 16 oz would only reduce my per session cost to £2.80 ($4.50) which is still pricey considering the Luv Natural conditioner which my hair prefers is $13 or $1.60 per session. Postage is excluded in these prices because it varies so much for different people. Slippiness This didn't feel adequately slippy on my hair. Also make sure you rinse out ALL your shampoo before application because it feel even less slippy when there's a bit of shampoo in the hair. I noticed this because one half of my head was well rinsed out and the other wasn't. Tangles It didn't retangle my hair, so that's a plus. Dried hair After my hair dried it felt parched and wiry. At that price, my hair would have to be having a passionate love affair with the deep conditioner for me to repurchase so, on that basis, I won't be getting this again!

Giovanni Smooth As Silk Conditioner was the conditioner I used for most of the first 12 months as a natural. I liked it when I first started using it so much so that I bought three on my next purchase. In fact, it was silly to buy three because I'd just heard a YouTuber complain that she thinks they've changed the formula and it had started making her scalp itch. I thought she was just hating on them and as it was working for me, why not stock up? Pure folly! My next batch proved her hypothesis to be correct. Giovanni Smooth As Silk Conditioner is now:
In addition, because this conditioner is for "daily use" it does not deep condition. Daily conditioners are surface acting and I made the mistake of trying to use this for deep conditions when it's not designed for this function. Because I found Giovanni Smooth As Silk Conditioner useful initially (when my hair was short) it might mean that it just works better for short hair, which is by nature less prone to getting tangled. I would like to hear about your experiences of this product.
Shea butter has been my moisturiser of choice since the beginning of my natural hair journey in March 2011.
I normally mix my own because all the shea butters I find are either too creamy or too hard; Hug My Hair shea butter is the first one that I have found to have got the texture just right. The product is so good that the Hug My Hair Webstore has already sold out. The benefits in my view:
Having used the products for a few weeks now, these are my ratings:
Detangler: 5/5 - it's awesome, I doubt there is a better product for detangling out there right now but I will try a few more. Wash Me Gently Shampoo: 2/5 - I don't like the way it makes my hair feel so I wouldn't buy this again. Conditioner: 5/5 - I will write an update when I find a conditioner better than this but for now, this is the best that I have found. Leave-in conditioner: 4/5 - personally, I think the smell is too strong but it is a good leave-in conditioner in terms of functionality.
I applied Cantu Shea Butter to my hair whilst it was dry.
I actually bought this on a drive from Indiana to Chicago when I was on holiday in America. I'd never heard of it before but the brightly coloured packaging caught my eye and I thought, why not. I was surprised that in America you can just go into a shop and buy products like this. In London you can't even get a mainstream black hair product like relaxer in the big stores never mind niche products like natural hair moisturisers, shampoos and conditioners. Yes, I am jealous - but we'll get there, some day. Although Cantu Shea butter has some petrolatum, I think it is okay to use on natural hair because it doesn't have the same heavy feeling that pure petrolatum does, you know, like vaseline. Cantu Shea butter is actually my very first experience with a creamy or whipped shea butter. I normally use a much less refined shea butter which is hard and not creamy at all. What I've discovered is that the less refined shea butter is great when I have just washed my hair and when I use it in collaboration with Neno Natural's Hair Growth Stimulator. However, it is much less effective on my dry hair. Cantu Shea butter does exactly the opposite: On my dry hair, it feels gorgeous. However, it doesn't feel as great when I apply it wet hair. As always, before I undo my twists I rub 'unwhipped' shea butter into my hands with some Neno Natural's Hair Growth Stimulator so that my hands slide over the hair easily. This minimises breakage. 26 Dec 2012 Update:
I used Avocado and Honey Twisting Cream to moisturise my hair before twisting it and going to bed. I left the twists in for a couple of days in bantu knots but when I undid them the hair wasn't well twisted, but when I added water it quickly became very soft and very manageable. For 5 days straight I didn't added any leave-in conditioner, creams or butters, I just spritzed the hair with water to re-soften it and it looked great! I would recommend avocado and honey twisting creams as a moisturiser.
I used eco styler myself for the very first time two days ago. My sister 'outted' me in the comments below by remembering that it was also used on my wedding day by the stylist, I had forgotten!
PROS As a gel, it works very well. My hair was flattened neatly against my scalp with a wavy sort of texture and it didn't look like gel normally does: bright, unnatural, clumpy. My hair looked good. CONS However, last night, I noticed that my hair was itching unusually. I do not normally have an itchy scalp and eco styler is the only new product I had applied to my hair so it was probably the culprit. Today, when I looked at my scalp closely, horror of all horrors, I had dandruff. Perhaps this is just the dried product but it looked unsightly. All things considered, I will use the gel again but next time I will wash it out the same day. I have a great formula for an itchy scalp: Neno Natural’s full-proof anti-itch hair wash.
